Heath Volunteers Tom Johnson and David Lane Honored

Volunteers honored by Mayor Kelsom Elan

Mayor Kelson Elam issued Proclamations of Appreciation to Heath residents, Tom Johnson and David Lane, for their lengthy service on the Heath Economic Development and Heath Municipal Benefits Boards at the August 23 City Council meeting.

A Heath resident since 1998, David moved the headquarters of his global oil and gas firm, Impact Selector International, to Heath in 2012. He exemplified an astute business sense and desire to give back to his hometown as a resident, parent and business contributing to the property and sales tax base as well as providing local employment opportunities and student internships. He was appointed to the HEDC/HMBC Board in 2014 and elected President in 2017 before terming out in July 2022.

Tom completed his first eight-year tenure on the HEDC/HMBC Board in 2017, during which he was elected President. He was recruited back to the Board in 2018. In addition to his volunteer service, Tom recently donated land at 101 Hubbard Drive along the Highlands of Heath and Hubbard trails that has been adopted as parkland to be developed into a future trailhead.

Both David and Tom played leadership roles in quickly establishing the Local Business Assistance program in March 2020 that delivered a financial bridge to help Heath restaurants and service businesses survive the impact of COVID-19 closure mandates. They also instituted a policy dedicating 25% of annual sales tax collected by the HEDC/HMBC to quality of life and parks and recreation investments; and crafted assistance agreements that brought distinctive businesses to Heath including Standard Service and the special events venue, Hidden Creek.
